The UAE will not see a total solar eclipse until September 2081, 55 years from now

## Upcoming Eclipses in the UAE

The UAE will not experience a total solar eclipse until September 3, 2081. This long wait of 55 years means that most current residents will not witness such an event from within the country.

## Recent Eclipses

The last solar eclipse visible in the UAE was a partial one on October 25, 2022, covering about 39% of the Sun. Prior to that, on December 26, 2019, an annular eclipse, known as the "ring of fire," was visible, marking the first of its kind in 172 years.

## Future Partial Eclipses

The next partial solar eclipse visible from the UAE will occur on August 2, 2027, with about 53% coverage in Dubai. Another partial eclipse is expected on June 1, 2030.

## Why Eclipses Are Rare in the UAE

The rarity of total solar eclipses in the UAE is due to its small geographic size and the narrow path of the Moon's shadow during such events. On average, a location might wait 375 years for a total eclipse.

## Lunar Eclipses

Lunar eclipses are more frequent and visible from larger areas. The UAE will see a penumbral lunar eclipse on August 28 this year, followed by a partial lunar eclipse on February 20, 2027, and a total lunar eclipse on December 31, 2028.
