## Record Production Forecast
The U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) projects that the United States will achieve a new record in natural gas production by 2026, with an average output of 122.5 billion cubic feet per day (Bcf/d). This surpasses the previous record of 118.5 Bcf/d set in 2025, marking a 3.4% increase.
## Key Drivers of Growth
The surge in production is largely attributed to increased output from major shale regions, particularly the Permian Basin, Appalachia, and Haynesville. The Permian Basin is notable for producing natural gas alongside crude oil, which boosts gas output even when gas prices are low. Haynesville benefits from its proximity to LNG export terminals and industrial consumers along the Gulf Coast.
## Impact on LNG Exports
The U.S. is expanding its role as a leading LNG exporter, with exports projected to rise from 15.1 Bcf/d in 2025 to 17.4 Bcf/d in 2026. This growth is supported by new and expanded LNG facilities, such as Plaquemines LNG and Corpus Christi Stage 3. The increase in LNG exports connects the U.S. gas market more closely with global energy markets.
## Price Outlook
Despite the record production, U.S. natural gas prices are expected to remain stable, with the Henry Hub benchmark forecasted to stay around the mid-$3-per-million-Btu range in 2026. However, as LNG exports and domestic consumption grow, the supply-demand balance could tighten, potentially affecting prices in 2027.
## Global Implications
The U.S. is becoming a crucial player in the global LNG market, especially amid disruptions in global gas trade. The country's ability to supply reliable LNG is increasingly important to international buyers, reinforcing its position as a key supplier in the global natural gas market.
