## Oil Flow Through Hormuz
The US Energy Secretary, Chris Wright, has reported that daily oil flow through the Strait of Hormuz is between eight and nine million barrels. This contradicts earlier estimates suggesting a significant drop in traffic due to the ongoing conflict with Iran.
## Tracking Challenges
Wright explained that many vessels are traveling with their transponders off and under military escort, making it difficult for commercial tracking services to provide accurate data. Despite this, US authorities are receiving daily updates on ship movements.
## Current Oil Export Levels
Before the conflict, over 100 vessels crossed the strait daily. Recent reports showed only 14 crossings on consecutive days. However, Wright emphasized that the region is still exporting 14 to 15 million barrels daily, slightly lower than the pre-conflict level of 20 million barrels.
## Impact on Global Oil Supply
The US is working to mitigate Iran's influence on shipping routes, although challenges remain. Wright noted that US petrol prices are still high, partly due to reduced global supplies of refined products, exacerbated by Ukrainian attacks on Russian refineries.
## Strategic Importance of Hormuz
The Strait of Hormuz is a critical passage for energy exports from the Gulf region, linking the Arabian Gulf with the Gulf of Oman and the Arabian Sea. It remains a focal point in global oil transit routes.
