‘My Police Station’: Kerala to transform 484 police stations under new public-friendly plan

## Initiative Overview Kerala has announced a major overhaul of its police stations under the 'My Police Station' initiative. This program aims to make all 484 stations across the state more welcoming and accessible to the public. The initiative was launched by Chief Minister VD Satheesan at the Peroorkada police station in Thiruvananthapuram.

## Key Features The revamped stations will feature dedicated help desks for various groups, including women, children, senior citizens, transgender individuals, and persons with disabilities. There will also be specialized desks for cybercrime and legal assistance. Additionally, the public will have access to applications and online services, information related to the Right to Information Act, and copies of FIRs.

## Focus on Transparency and Accountability Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala emphasized the importance of trust and accountability, urging the public to approach police stations without fear. The initiative includes measures to prevent custodial deaths and ensure compliance with Supreme Court guidelines on police procedures. CCTV cameras have been installed in all stations to enhance transparency.

## Additional Measures The initiative also includes appointing young Sub-Inspectors, including 63 women, as Station House Officers. The government plans to address the mental well-being of police personnel through stress management training to prevent suicides. This transformation is part of a broader effort to adapt the police force to the evolving needs of society.
