Jeff Bezos joins Amit Bhatia-led consortium in £6b Liverpool FC minority stake deal

## Major Investment in Liverpool FC

Liverpool FC's ownership group, Fenway Sports Group (FSG), has agreed to sell a minority stake in the club to a consortium led by Amit Bhatia. This group includes notable figures such as Amazon's Jeff Bezos and Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin. The deal values the club at approximately £6 billion.

## Consortium Details

The consortium, known as 1892 Holdings, is acquiring about one-third of Liverpool FC. While Bezos will not join the club's board, Bryan Baum from K5 Sports, a venture capital firm associated with Bezos, will become a board member. Saverin's wife, Elaine, will also join the board.

## Strategic Partnership

FSG President Mike Gordon emphasized that the partnership aligns with Liverpool's long-term growth strategy. The new investment aims to enhance the club's objectives both on and off the field. Despite the sale, FSG will maintain majority ownership and operational control.

## Background and Future Prospects

This marks Bezos's first venture into sports team ownership, following previous interest in NFL teams. Bhatia, with a background in football management, expressed pride in joining Liverpool, highlighting the club's leadership and success. The investment comes as Liverpool seeks to improve on last season's fifth-place finish in the Premier League. The club has already spent £94 million on new players, including Jeremy Jacquet and Victor Munoz, to bolster their squad.
