A Canadian-bred falcon recently fetched a staggering 1.3 million Saudi riyals ($346,000) at an auction near Riyadh, marking it as the most expensive falcon sold in 2026. This sale took place during the International Falcon Breeders Auction in Malham, approximately 65 kilometers from the Saudi capital.

## Competitive Bidding

The auction began with an opening bid of 200,000 riyals ($53,000) for the juvenile three-quarter gyr Super White falcon. Intense bidding among enthusiasts quickly escalated the price to its final amount. The falcon was bred by Jim Wilson Falcons in Ontario, Canada.

## Additional Sales

On the same night, another bird from the same Canadian farm, a pure gyrfalcon chick, was sold for 150,000 riyals after starting at 40,000 riyals. This brought the total sales from the farm to 1.45 million riyals.

## Auction Records

Despite the impressive sale, the falcon did not surpass the auction's record price of 1.75 million riyals ($467,000) set in 2021. Last year's top sale was 1.2 million riyals, indicating the high value placed on these birds in the Gulf region.

## Cultural Significance

Falconry holds significant cultural importance in Saudi Arabia and the Arabian Peninsula. The auction in Malham serves as a global marketplace, attracting breeders and collectors from around the world. Birds purchased here are eligible to compete in lucrative falcon races in Saudi Arabia, where prize money can reach $12.5 million.
