## Arrest in Major Recruitment Scam

Authorities in the Philippines have rescued approximately 1,700 aspiring overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) from a fraudulent recruitment scheme promising jobs in Central Europe. The operation led to the arrest of Mazhoor Ubongin Khusin, also known as "Maz," on July 20, 2026, in Pampanga. Khusin was apprehended under a warrant issued by the Regional Trial Court of Makati City for large-scale illegal recruitment.

## Fake Job Offers in Europe

The scam involved fake job offers in countries such as Poland, Lithuania, and the Czech Republic. The positions included factory workers, farmers, and hotel staff, with promised salaries reaching up to 90,000 Philippine pesos monthly. Applicants were reportedly charged placement fees ranging from 80,000 to 130,000 pesos.

## Ongoing Investigation

While Khusin is in custody, authorities are still searching for five alleged accomplices. The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) has identified these individuals and is continuing efforts to bring them to justice.

## Warnings to Job Seekers

DMW Secretary Hans Leo J. Cacdac emphasized the importance of vigilance among job seekers. He warned against recruiters demanding high fees or offering unusually high salaries and advised caution with promises of visas or immediate deployment. The DMW continues to pursue those involved in illegal recruitment activities.
