Tamil Nadu extends 365-day maternity leave to third child

## Extended Maternity Leave

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay has announced that women employed by the state government will now receive 365 days of maternity leave for their third child. This extension aligns the benefits with those already available for the first two children. The decision is part of a broader package of welfare initiatives.

## Enhanced Health Insurance

The state has significantly increased the health insurance coverage under the Chief Minister’s Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme. The annual coverage has been raised from ₹500,000 to ₹2.5 million per family, aiming to alleviate the financial burden of medical expenses.

## Support for MLAs

A new support package for the 234 members of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly includes the provision of government vehicles and monthly allowances. Each MLA will receive ₹75,000 for vehicle-related expenses and ₹25,000 for hiring a secretary.

## Education and Healthcare Expansion

The government plans to invest ₹3.51 billion to expand medical and nursing education, adding 6,098 seats across various courses. Additionally, seven new government nursing colleges will be established. A new 400-bed multi-speciality hospital is also planned for Perambalur.

## Benefits for Milk Producers

The state has increased the milk procurement price from ₹38 to ₹41 per litre, benefiting over 316,000 producers. The government incentive for milk producers has also been raised from ₹3 to ₹5 per litre.
