## Overland Freight Expansion
DP World has successfully transported 500,000 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) across the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region by road and rail since March. This initiative provides businesses with alternative logistics solutions amid disruptions in traditional shipping routes.
The company's inland network now facilitates approximately 3,000 truck movements daily, following the addition of 700 trucks to boost cross-border and domestic freight capacity. This expansion highlights the increasing reliance on overland routes by cargo owners and shipping lines seeking alternatives to maritime routes.
## New Routes and Facilities
DP World has introduced fast-track bonded corridors linking east coast gateways directly with Jebel Ali and established a corridor from Sohar, Oman. Additionally, the company has utilized Red Sea routes via the South Container Terminal at Jeddah Islamic Port, offering more options for cargo movement across the region.
In Dubai, a new 100,000-square-metre inland empty container depot in Al Awir has been opened. This facility enhances storage and release capacity, allowing for efficient repositioning of empty containers across Dubai, Sharjah, and the Northern Emirates without relying solely on port movements.
## Integrated Logistics Solutions
The Al Awir depot, with direct access to Emirates Road, connects with major logistics and industrial areas in the UAE and supports potential future rail-based container movements through Etihad Rail. It accommodates various container sizes and provides inspection and inventory management services.
By relocating empty container storage closer to customers, DP World aims to reduce unnecessary port movements, facilitating easier access for shipping lines and logistics companies. This development is part of DP World's broader strategy to integrate port services, logistics capabilities, and inland infrastructure, enhancing cargo flow efficiency across the region.
