## Pogacar Takes Lead in Vuelta a Espana
Tadej Pogacar, representing UAE Team Emirates, emerged victorious in the first stage of the Vuelta a Espana, held in Monaco. The Slovenian cyclist completed the 9.4-kilometer individual time trial in 10 minutes and 57 seconds, narrowly beating Britain's Ethan Hayter.
## Aiming for Grand Tour Treble
Pogacar, who has already claimed victories in the Tour de France and Giro d'Italia, is aiming to achieve a career Grand Tour treble with a win in the Vuelta. His performance in the opening stage places him as a strong contender to finish the race in the leader's red jersey.
## Competition and Course Details
The technical course through Monaco's streets was designed for specialists, with Joshua Tarling finishing third, four seconds behind Pogacar and Hayter. Tarling's performance was notable, especially following the recent passing of his brother, Finlay Tarling, in a road accident.
## Upcoming Stages
The Vuelta continues with a challenging 214.3-kilometer stage from Monaco to Manosque, France. Pogacar's compatriot, Primoz Roglic, who is also competing, finished 24th in the opening stage. The race will conclude in Granada on September 13, where Pogacar hopes to secure his place in cycling history.
