## Proposed Inspections
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has suggested safety checks on 453 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft in the United States. This proposal comes after reports indicated that some seat assemblies might not be properly secured to the aircraft floor tracks.
## Safety Concerns
The FAA's concern stems from the possibility that improperly installed seat assemblies could detach during turbulence or emergency landings, posing injury risks to passengers and crew. Additionally, a detached seat could obstruct the aisle, delaying evacuation efforts.
## Boeing's Response
Boeing had already issued guidance in December 2025, advising operators on inspecting and installing the affected seat assemblies. The company supports the FAA's proposal to make these inspections mandatory.
## Cost and Compliance
The FAA estimates the inspection process will cost U.S. operators approximately $2.66 million. Each inspection is expected to take about an hour per seat assembly, with no additional parts required. If corrective work is needed, it would incur additional labor costs. Some expenses might be covered by Boeing's warranty, potentially reducing costs for airlines.
