UAE launches largest Ramadan 'food rescue' to combat waste

## UAE's Ambitious Food Rescue Campaign

The UAE has launched its largest food rescue initiative during Ramadan 2026, aiming to combat food waste on a national scale. The campaign, known as 'Valuing Our Roots,' is spearheaded by ne’ma, the National Food Loss and Waste Initiative. It seeks to redistribute over 300,000 tonnes of surplus food across the Emirates, marking a 50% increase in recovered food compared to the previous year.

## Supporting Low-Income Families

More than 10,000 low-income families are set to benefit from the initiative through ne’ma Family Iftar Boxes. These boxes, filled with surplus food items, are distributed to families in need, highlighting the UAE's commitment to food security and community support.

## Community Involvement and Partnerships

The campaign is supported by a coalition of strategic partners, including the Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority, the Khalifa Foundation, and Silal. These partnerships are crucial in enhancing surplus management systems and improving food redistribution channels.

## Volunteer Engagement

Volunteers from families and corporate partners will participate in over 54 activities, packing and distributing Iftar Boxes at central hubs like Expo City Dubai. This effort not only addresses food waste but also fosters community engagement and awareness about responsible food practices.
