## Dubai Police Initiative
Dubai Police have successfully returned 6,040 lost items to their rightful owners over the past five years. This effort includes reuniting people with luxury watches, valuable jewelry, and sentimental keepsakes. The initiative was launched to address the challenges faced by individuals, especially tourists, in retrieving lost belongings after leaving the emirate.
## Smart Delivery Service
The police have implemented a smart delivery service that allows owners to receive their lost items without needing to return to Dubai. Through an online platform, individuals can choose a convenient delivery time and location. This service has been particularly beneficial for tourists who discover they have lost items only after returning home.
## Memorable Recoveries
First Lieutenant Reem Al Hosani of the Lost and Found Department highlighted instances where people were unaware of their loss until contacted by the police. The department treats each item with care, recognizing that sentimental value often surpasses monetary worth. One notable case involved an old mobile phone, which, after being returned, inspired the owner to write a poem of gratitude.
## System and Security
Established in 2015, the Lost and Found Department collaborates with around 1,600 partners, including hotels and airports, to recover lost property. The department follows UAE regulations, allowing owners three months to claim items before they may be auctioned. Proceeds from auctions are held for three years, providing owners the opportunity to reclaim their value.
First Lieutenant Sami Al Houti, with over 30 years of experience, emphasized the department's commitment to security, maintaining high-security vaults for cash and valuables. He recounted tracing a Rolex watch worth Dh150,000 to its owner in Eastern Europe, who initially believed it was lost in an accident.
