## Arrest and Charges
A 39-year-old Malaysian pilot, identified as MSO, was arrested at Jakarta's Soekarno-Hatta International Airport after testing positive for methamphetamine, MDMA, and cocaine. He is accused of smuggling over 70,000 ecstasy tablets into Indonesia.
## Details of the Incident
The pilot, who had just flown a passenger plane from Kuala Lumpur, was found with 14 bags of ecstasy and four grams of methamphetamine. He reportedly did not expect to be checked in the special customs lane for pilots and crew.
## Legal Implications
Under Indonesian law, MSO faces the death penalty or life imprisonment for drug smuggling. Indonesia is known for its strict anti-drug laws, although it has not executed anyone for drug offenses since 2016.
## Airline's Response
Malaysia Airlines has launched an internal review and stated it will cooperate fully with authorities. The airline has refrained from further comments pending the investigation.
## Broader Context
Indonesia has a history of severe penalties for drug trafficking, with many foreign nationals on death row. The country last carried out executions for drug offenses in 2016.
