## Italy's Temporary Schengen Suspension
Italy has temporarily halted Schengen free-movement rules with Spain for a month, implementing specific checks on travelers arriving from Spain by air and sea. This decision comes in response to a significant increase in migrant arrivals in Ceuta, a Spanish territory in North Africa, from Morocco.
## Impact on UAE Travelers
UAE residents traveling to Italy via Spain should prepare for potential additional checks at Italian airports and ports. Travelers are advised to carry valid passports, Schengen visas, and other necessary travel documents. It's also recommended to allow extra time for airport procedures and border checks, and to stay updated with airlines and official advisories.
## Schengen Visas Still Valid
The temporary measure does not mean Schengen visas are suspended. Travelers with valid Schengen visas can continue visiting Italy and Spain, although they may face border controls.
## Reasons Behind Italy's Decision
The suspension follows a surge in migrants crossing into Ceuta from Morocco. Italy's Deputy Prime Minister Antonio Tajani stated the move is essential to protect citizens and strengthen European borders.
## Spain and France's Response
Spain maintains that the Schengen system remains intact, with most migrants who entered Ceuta having returned to Morocco. Meanwhile, France has also increased border checks with Spain, deploying additional police and border officers to support Spain in managing the situation.
## Advice for UAE Travelers
UAE travelers planning trips to Europe should check the latest border rules, especially when traveling between Schengen countries, to ensure a smooth journey.
