Fleeing an accident scene? Sharjah Police say hit-and-run could mean heavier fines

## Sharjah Police Issue Warning

Sharjah Police have issued a strong warning to drivers about the serious consequences of leaving an accident scene. Authorities emphasize that fleeing can result in severe penalties, including fines, black points, and vehicle impoundment.

## Legal and Safety Implications

Major Saud Al Shaiba and Captain Humaid Al Hammadi from the Traffic Awareness Branch highlighted that abandoning an accident site not only violates traffic laws but also endangers lives by delaying medical assistance. They stress the importance of staying at the scene and cooperating with emergency services.

## Penalties for Hit-and-Run

The penalties for hit-and-run incidents are often harsher than those for causing the accident itself. For minor accidents involving light vehicles, the fine is Dh500, with 8 traffic points and a 7-day vehicle impoundment. For heavy vehicles, the fine increases to Dh1,000, with 16 traffic points and the same impoundment period.

## Promoting Road Safety

Sharjah Police are actively educating drivers on the legal repercussions of hit-and-run cases and encouraging responsible driving. They urge motorists to assist victims and contact emergency services promptly, as responsible actions can save lives and minimize injuries.

## Road Safety Campaign

Throughout the month, Gulf News will focus on road safety, offering tips to promote safe driving habits. Drivers are encouraged to plan their journeys, allow extra travel time, and avoid speeding to contribute to safer roads.
