## Record Temperature in Yangsan
South Korea has recorded its highest temperature ever, with the southeastern city of Yangsan reaching 42.5°C. This unprecedented heat was documented by the Korea Meteorological Administration on a Sunday afternoon, marking the hottest day since records began over a century ago.
## Widespread Heatwave Conditions
The heatwave has gripped much of the country, with temperatures soaring above 40°C in Yangsan for five consecutive days. Many regions are under heat warnings, with temperatures frequently hitting the high 30s. Over 20 areas were placed under emergency heatwave alerts, a new measure introduced to address the rising temperatures.
## Increasing Frequency of Heatwaves
Data from the Korea Meteorological Administration indicates a significant increase in the number of heatwave days, which have more than doubled from an average of eight days in the 1970s to 19 days in recent years. A heatwave day is defined as having a maximum temperature of at least 33°C.
## Climate Change Concerns
Scientists attribute the increasing frequency and intensity of extreme weather events, such as heatwaves, to human-induced climate change. This trend is expected to continue, raising concerns about future weather patterns and their impacts.
