The key to taking down Mexico's most-wanted narco? His girlfriend

## Key Role in Cartel Leader's Capture

Nemesio Oseguera, known as "El Mencho," was a notorious figure leading the Jalisco New Generation Cartel. His capture and subsequent death were significantly aided by the involvement of one of his romantic partners. The Mexican military, with support from the US Northern Command, tracked Oseguera to a village in western Mexico after learning of a planned meeting with his girlfriend.

## Military Operation Details

The operation took place in Tapalpa, about 130 km from Guadalajara. Mexican Defense Secretary Ricardo Trevilla explained that the woman met Oseguera on Saturday and left him at a house with his security team. The National Guard's Special Immediate Reaction Force executed the raid on Sunday, using both land and air strategies to maintain surprise.

## Violent Confrontation

During the raid, Oseguera and his guards engaged in a violent confrontation with the military. Oseguera was found with an arsenal, including rocket launchers. Despite attempts to escape into a forested area, he was captured and wounded. Oseguera and two of his escorts died while being transported to a hospital.

## Aftermath and Continued Violence

The death of "El Mencho" led to widespread violence across Mexico, with roadblocks and vehicle burnings reported in 20 states. The government deployed 10,000 soldiers to restore order. Meanwhile, Oseguera's right-hand man, Hugo H., also known as "El Tuli," was killed in a separate incident while attempting to flee with a large sum of money and weapons.
