## Trump's Pattern of Announcements
President Donald Trump has repeatedly declared intentions to pause military strikes on Iran, only for attacks to resume shortly after. This pattern has characterized the ongoing conflict, which has significantly impacted global oil prices and trade.
## Key Announcements and Reversals
In early April, Trump announced a ceasefire with Iran, just before a deadline for potential attacks. However, by May, the ceasefire was broken as the U.S. resumed strikes on Iranian tankers.
Later in May, Trump paused a major military strike, citing ongoing negotiations. Yet, within days, the strikes resumed after talks failed.
In June, after threatening severe action, Trump called off strikes following a reported breakthrough in negotiations. A week later, he signed a preliminary agreement with Iran, but left open the possibility of resuming hostilities.
## Recent Developments
In July, Trump paused intense strikes to allow for further negotiations, but attacks continued as tensions over shipping routes escalated. By August, after announcing plans for a severe strike, Trump again canceled the attack, citing progress in diplomatic efforts.
Iran's defense minister responded to these announcements by stating the country remains vigilant against threats, despite the fluctuating U.S. stance.
