Dubai's correctional system has been honored with the Global Eagle Award by the American Correctional Association (ACA). This accolade is given to institutions that meet the highest standards set by the ACA. Dubai is the first in the region and only the third globally to achieve this recognition.

## Accreditation Journey

The award follows a series of accreditations starting in 2020. The Central Correctional and Penal Institution was the first to be accredited, with renewals in 2023. The Women's Correctional and Penal Institution also achieved full compliance in 2020, marking a milestone as the first women's facility to do so. The Misdemeanours and Minor Offences Institution's recent accreditation helped secure the Global Eagle Award.

## Commitment to Human Rights

Lieutenant General Abdulla Khalifa Al Marri of Dubai Police emphasized the award's alignment with the UAE's human rights strategy, highlighting the system's adherence to international standards. The focus remains on rehabilitation while respecting the dignity and rights of inmates.

## Investment in Rehabilitation

Brigadier Sultan Al Owais noted the ongoing investment in rehabilitation infrastructure, including healthcare, education, and vocational training. The system supports inmates' personal development and digital learning, and collaborates with various organizations to aid financially vulnerable individuals.

## Benchmarking Against Global Standards

Colonel Hamad Rashid Al Marri explained that the accreditation process was designed to measure Dubai's correctional facilities against international best practices. The ACA evaluates institutions based on safety, security, inmate welfare, and management practices, making it a leading authority in corrections worldwide.
