## Tatkal Service Clarification

The Indian Consulate in Dubai is addressing delays in passport processing for Indian expatriates in the UAE. The new Consul General, Dr. E. Vishnu Vardhan Reddy, has assured that efforts are underway to eliminate backlogs, particularly for urgent applications under the Tatkal scheme.

## Transition Challenges

The delays have been attributed to the transition to a new service provider, Alhind Tours & Travels, which now manages passport and consular services through 16 centers across the UAE. This changeover has faced initial operational challenges.

## Tatkal Eligibility

The Tatkal service is designed for urgent passport needs and involves a higher fee for faster processing. However, not all applications qualify. Eligible cases include renewals without changes, address updates, and certain name adjustments. Fresh applications and those requiring significant changes do not qualify.

## Processing Times

Currently, Tatkal applications are processed within three days, though same-day service is available for genuine emergencies. Applicants must provide proof of urgency, such as flight tickets.

## Avoiding Middlemen

Dr. Reddy has warned against using unauthorized agents for application processing. The official service provider offers necessary services at a lower cost, and applicants are encouraged to utilize these facilities.

## Future Improvements

The consulate is committed to restoring standard service levels and reducing processing times for all applications. Awareness sessions for workers are planned to prevent exploitation by third-party agents.
