Dubai Police arrest 26 beggars in first week of Ramadan crackdown

## Intensified Campaign Against Begging

Dubai Police have apprehended 26 beggars of various nationalities during the first week of Ramadan. This action is part of an intensified campaign aimed at curbing begging activities across the city. The initiative, known as "An Aware Society Without Begging," is conducted by the Suspicious Persons and Criminal Phenomena Department in collaboration with local police stations.

## Strategic Partnerships

The campaign is supported by strategic partners such as the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs and the Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department. The goal is to enhance public awareness, maintain Dubai's civilised image, and address begging as a criminal act.

## Legal Measures and Public Awareness

Brigadier Ali Salem Al Shamsi, who leads the department, highlighted the campaign's success in reducing begging cases through strict legal measures. He noted that some individuals exploit the charitable nature of Ramadan for illegal gains, often using emotional tactics involving vulnerable individuals.

## Reporting and Donations

Authorities urge residents to donate only through licensed charities to ensure aid reaches those in genuine need. The public is encouraged to report beggars by calling the toll-free number 901 or using the "Police Eye" feature on the Dubai Police app. Electronic begging cases can be reported via the e-Crime platform.
