## UAE's Concerns Over Shipping Security
Dr. Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, UAE Minister of Foreign Trade, expressed serious concerns about Iran's recent actions affecting commercial shipping. Speaking at the BRICS Trade Ministers Meeting in Jaipur, he emphasized the need for the immediate reopening of the Strait of Hormuz to ensure freedom of navigation and the protection of global shipping routes.
## BRICS Meeting Highlights
The meeting, hosted by India, brought together trade ministers from BRICS nations to discuss key issues like trade resilience and market connectivity. Despite extensive discussions, the ministers did not reach a consensus on a joint declaration.
## Strengthening Economic Ties
Al Zeyoudi also engaged in bilateral talks with several counterparts, including India's Piyush Goyal, focusing on enhancing trade and investment ties. The UAE's trade with BRICS countries has shown significant growth, with non-oil trade reaching over $312 billion in 2025.
## UAE's Role in BRICS
The UAE, a member of the expanded BRICS community, continues to strengthen its economic relationships with these nations, which now include Indonesia and Egypt. The UAE's participation in BRICS aligns with its broader trade goals, aiming to boost non-oil foreign trade significantly by 2031.
