## Surge in Travel Scams

Cybercriminals are increasingly targeting travelers by impersonating well-known travel brands such as Emirates and Uber. Over a 12-month period, cybersecurity firm Kaspersky detected nearly 270,000 attempts to deceive travelers using fake booking sites and fraudulent offers.

## Common Tactics

The scams often involve creating phishing pages and fake applications that mimic legitimate brands. These fraudulent sites aim to steal banking details and payment information by tricking users into entering their credentials.

## Targeted Brands

Emirates was the most impersonated brand, accounting for 61% of the detected attacks, followed by Uber at 37%. The scams are not limited to airlines; ride-sharing services and hotel booking platforms are also targeted.

## Fake Compensation and Bookings

One scam involved fake compensation offers from Ryanair, pressuring victims to provide account details or pay fees. Another scheme involved fake hotel bookings, where victims entered personal information on a fraudulent Booking.com page.

## Protecting Yourself

Travelers are advised to book directly through official websites and verify web addresses before entering payment information. Be wary of deals requiring immediate payment, especially via wire transfers or gift cards. Use strong passwords and enable multi-factor authentication for added security.

## Additional Precautions

Monitor bank statements for unfamiliar transactions after making travel purchases. Avoid using public Wi-Fi for accessing sensitive accounts, and ensure QR codes are from trusted sources before scanning.
