## New Regulations for Building Owners
The Abu Dhabi Civil Defence Authority has announced a new regulation requiring building owners to maintain an approved lift maintenance contract. Failure to comply will result in a Dh5,000 fine. This measure is part of the UAE's civil defence regulations, specifically Cabinet Resolution No. 24 of 2012, which outlines safety standards for buildings.
## Importance of Regular Maintenance
The authority emphasizes that regular lift maintenance is crucial for ensuring the safety of building occupants. Routine inspections help identify and address technical issues before they become serious hazards. This requirement is part of a broader safety initiative that includes maintaining functional fire alarm and firefighting systems.
## Exemptions and Compliance
The regulation applies to both residential and commercial buildings but excludes standalone private homes. Building owners are urged to contract approved companies for lift maintenance to prevent risks associated with neglected systems. The Civil Defence Authority highlights that maintaining these contracts is not only a legal obligation but also a preventive measure to enhance overall building safety.
