## Introduction of E-Invoicing
Oman's Tax Authority has announced that electronic invoicing will become mandatory for businesses registered for VAT starting April 2027. This move aims to enhance tax compliance, transparency, and digitalisation within the country's tax system.
## Implementation Phases
The rollout will occur in two stages. Initially, companies with annual supplies exceeding OMR5 million must adopt e-invoicing by April 1, 2027. Businesses with lower annual supplies will follow suit by October 1, 2027.
## System Requirements
Under the new regulations, tax invoices must be issued, transmitted, and stored electronically in a secure format. This ensures the integrity and verifiability of the data. The system will use XML format, facilitating automatic data processing.
## Pilot Program
Ahead of the full implementation, a pilot program involving 100 companies will begin in August 2026. This trial will help test the system's readiness and allow participating businesses to integrate their systems accordingly.
## Benefits of E-Invoicing
The initiative is expected to reduce errors and manipulation, improve data quality, and enhance consumer protection by allowing invoice verification. It also supports Oman's Vision 2040 and the National Digital Transformation Strategy, aiming for more efficient digital services and government procedures.
