The United Arab Emirates (UAE) reported a substantial increase in non-oil trade with BRICS nations, reaching over $312 billion in 2025. This marks a 28.5% rise from the previous year, with BRICS countries contributing to 31% of the UAE's total non-oil foreign trade.

## Call for Strait of Hormuz Reopening

During the 2026 BRICS Trade Ministers Meeting in Jaipur, UAE Minister of Foreign Trade, Dr. Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, emphasized the need for the immediate reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. He expressed concerns over Iran's actions affecting commercial shipping and stressed the importance of protecting international shipping lanes.

## Trade Relations with India

The UAE's non-oil trade with India alone reached $76.2 billion in 2025, a 17.3% increase from the previous year. Discussions with Indian officials focused on expanding cooperation in various sectors, including digital commerce and logistics.

## Expanding BRICS Membership

BRICS, which now includes Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Indonesia, Ethiopia, Egypt, Iran, and the UAE, represents a significant portion of the global population and GDP. The UAE is actively pursuing broader trade agreements, aiming to boost non-oil foreign trade to $1.1 trillion by 2031.
