Total solar eclipse on August 12, 2026: Where will it be visible?

## Overview of the Eclipse

On August 12, 2026, a total solar eclipse will occur, captivating millions across Europe and North America. This rare astronomical event will trace a path over the North Atlantic, providing different views depending on the observer's location.

## Path of Totality

The eclipse's totality will be visible in a narrow corridor starting in northern Russia, passing over Greenland, Iceland, and the North Atlantic. It will briefly touch northeastern Portugal and northern Spain. Observers in these areas will experience totality for less than two minutes, with the longest views in Greenland and Russia.

## Partial Eclipse Visibility

Outside the path of totality, a partial eclipse will be visible. In North America, it will start in the morning in Alaska and northern Canada, while eastern Canada will see it in the afternoon. The northern United States will witness the eclipse from midday to mid-afternoon. In Europe and Africa, the partial eclipse will occur in the evening.

## Viewing in the Arab World

While no Arab countries lie within the path of totality, several will see a significant partial eclipse. Algeria will have the best view, with up to 96% of the Sun obscured. Morocco, Tunisia, and Mauritania will also experience notable coverage.

## UAE and Online Viewing

The UAE will not see the eclipse, as it falls outside the viewing path. However, live coverage will be available online. NASA will stream the event from 1:15 pm EDT, and the European Space Agency will broadcast from Spain at 19:30 CEST.
