Sheikh Zayed Road gets extra lane to cut peak-hour delays

## New Lane Addition

Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has completed a project to add an extra lane on Sheikh Zayed Road, aiming to alleviate peak-hour congestion. This 2-kilometer expansion near the Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall Metro Station increases the number of lanes from six to seven, specifically benefiting traffic heading from Abu Dhabi towards the World Trade Centre Intersection.

## Improved Traffic Flow

The additional lane is expected to boost road capacity by 17%, potentially reducing travel times by up to 10% during busy periods. This development is part of a broader initiative to enhance traffic flow along one of Dubai's main thoroughfares, which connects key locations such as the Dubai World Trade Centre and the Museum of the Future.

## Recent Infrastructure Developments

This lane expansion follows the opening of a new two-lane bridge at the World Trade Centre Roundabout. The bridge, which can handle 3,000 vehicles per hour, significantly cuts travel time between Sheikh Zayed Road and Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Street, reducing it from six minutes to just one. These improvements are designed to ease congestion and improve connectivity in central Dubai.
