## New Legal Measures in Kuwait
Kuwait has implemented Decree-Law No. 78 of 2026, introducing stringent penalties for expatriates involved in commercial concealment. This law, published in the official gazette, will be effective six months post-publication.
## Key Provisions
The decree mandates deportation for expatriates convicted of commercial concealment. It also includes prison sentences, hefty fines, business closures, and asset confiscation. The law aims to enhance transparency and regulate economic activities by prohibiting unlicensed business operations.
## Penalties and Enforcement
Violators face imprisonment from one to three years and fines ranging from 10,000 to 100,000 Kuwaiti dinars, or equivalent to illicit profits. Repeat offenders within five years of a conviction will incur doubled penalties. The law allows settlements before a court ruling if offenders pay at least half the maximum fine and correct their legal status.
## Encouraging Public Reporting
To promote public involvement, the law offers financial rewards for information leading to convictions. It also grants judicial enforcement powers to designated officials and imposes penalties for obstructing inspections or providing false information.
