## Major Military Appointments

Iran's Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, has implemented significant changes in the country's military leadership amid ongoing tensions with the United States. On Monday, he appointed six new commanders to key roles within Iran's armed forces, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), and the Basij Resistance Force.

Key appointments include Ali Abdollahi as the chief of staff of Iran’s Armed Forces, Kioumars Heydari as deputy chief of staff, and Ahmad Vahidi as the commander-in-chief of the IRGC. Mostafa Izadi has been named deputy commander-in-chief of the IRGC, Ali Azmaei takes over as commander of the IRGC Navy, and Hossein Taeb is now head of the Basij Resistance Force.

## Context of the Changes

These appointments are Khamenei’s first major military decisions since he assumed leadership following the death of his father, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, in a US-Israeli strike earlier this year. Additionally, former IRGC chief Mohsen Rezaee has been appointed as Khamenei's representative to Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, replacing Mohammad Baqir Zolghadr.

## Health Speculation

The reshuffle occurs amid ongoing speculation about Khamenei's health, as he has not made any public appearances since taking office. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has stated that Khamenei is in good health following a lengthy meeting where they discussed economic issues and US sanctions. Despite these assurances, Khamenei's absence from public view continues to fuel rumors.
