Singapore offers nearly Dh200,000 per child in bid to lift birth rate

## New Child Support Package

Singapore has unveiled a comprehensive financial support package aimed at encouraging families to have more children. The initiative offers nearly Dh200,000 per child, equivalent to S$70,000, covering various aspects of child-rearing from birth to age 17.

## Financial Breakdown

The SG Child Support Package includes a S$10,000 cash Baby Gift and S$32,000 in Child Credits, distributed annually from age one to 16. Additionally, there is a S$5,000 Child Development Account grant, up to S$5,000 in government co-matching, and a S$10,000 top-up to a post-secondary education account at age 17.

## Additional Support

The package also extends existing benefits, such as a S$5,000 MediSave grant for newborns and approximately S$2,500 in Edusave contributions during school years. Childcare leave is expanded, offering up to 12 days annually for parents with multiple children.

## Addressing Low Fertility Rates

These measures come in response to Singapore's declining fertility rate, which hit a record low of 0.87 children per woman in 2025. The government aims to ease the financial burden of raising children and support families more robustly, viewing this as a critical investment in the nation's future.
