Nepal-China floods: People from more than 30 countries are missing

## Devastating Floods in Nepal and China

A catastrophic flood has struck the border region between Nepal and China, resulting in at least 332 deaths and leaving hundreds missing. The disaster was triggered by a glacial collapse, which sent torrents of mud, debris, and water through the area, devastating communities and infrastructure.

## International Impact

The floods have affected people from over 30 countries, with more than 400 foreign tourists among the missing. The National Tourism Board of Nepal reported that 517 foreigners are unaccounted for, including significant numbers from India, the United States, Malaysia, and Ukraine.

## Rescue Efforts Intensify

Rescue teams from both Nepal and China are working tirelessly to locate the missing. Chinese rescuers, equipped with dogs and drones, have joined the efforts. However, challenging conditions, such as unstable terrain and blocked access routes, are hampering operations.

## Global Response

International leaders have expressed their condolences and offered assistance. The UK has pledged £5 million in aid, while the United States has offered $500,000 in emergency assistance. The United Nations has also expressed readiness to support relief efforts.

## Growing Glacier Risks

This disaster highlights the increasing risks posed by climate change in the Himalayan region. Scientists warn that the rapid melting of glaciers is leading to more frequent and severe flooding events, emphasizing the need for improved monitoring and early-warning systems.
