Emirati dies in Mykonos drowning during Greece holiday

## Tragic Drowning Incident

A 35-year-old Emirati man, Badr Abdullah Mohammed Al Harmi, tragically drowned while swimming off the coast of Mykonos, Greece. The incident occurred shortly after he and his friends arrived on the island for a holiday.

## Community Mourning

Al Harmi was a respected government employee from Ras Al Khaimah and the only son in his family. His passing has deeply affected the local community, with many remembering him for his kindness and generosity. Thousands attended his funeral in Ras Al Khaimah, where he was laid to rest following prayers at Al Diwan Mosque.

## Circumstances of the Incident

After arriving in Greece, Al Harmi and his friends went to the beach to swim while waiting for their hotel check-in. Despite being an experienced swimmer, he was caught in strong sea currents. While his friends managed to escape, Al Harmi was swept away and suffered a cardiac arrest.

## Support and Condolences

The UAE Embassy in Greece assisted in repatriating Al Harmi's body, and the UAE Ambassador in Athens personally offered condolences to his family. In his memory, a community fundraising effort successfully financed the construction of two mosques and a water well.

## Previous Tragedies

This incident is the second tragedy involving UAE nationals abroad this summer. In July, a young Emirati boy died in a traffic accident in Tunisia.
