Nepal flood victims found nearly 200km downstream in India

## Cross-Border Flood Impact

In a tragic aftermath of flash floods in Nepal, seven bodies have been discovered in India, nearly 200 kilometers downstream from the disaster's origin. The victims were found in the Uttar Pradesh districts of Maharajganj and Kushinagar, illustrating the extensive reach of the floodwaters.

## Extensive Damage

The floods, which began in the Himalayan region, have caused significant destruction across Nepal and into India. In Nepal, bodies have been recovered in several districts, with Chitwan reporting the highest number of casualties. The floodwaters traveled through interconnected river systems, crossing the border into India via the Gandak River.

## Rising Death Toll

The disaster has claimed at least 472 lives, with 469 bodies found in Nepal and three in China. The seven bodies recovered in India are not included in this toll. Additionally, over 1,400 individuals remain missing.

## Rapid Onset

The flood struck with alarming speed, following a seismic event in the Himalayas. Despite warnings sent to residents along riverbanks, the flood's rapid progression left little time for evacuation. The search for missing persons continues on both sides of the border.
