Dubai parents urged to check discounts in final back-to-school shopping rush

## Back-to-School Shopping Alert

As students in the UAE prepare to return to school on August 31, parents in Dubai are being advised to carefully evaluate discounts during their back-to-school shopping. The Dubai Corporation for Consumer Protection and Fair Trade is intensifying inspections to ensure retailers display both original and discounted prices clearly.

## Inspection Efforts

Ahmed Ahli, Acting Director of Consumer Protection, emphasized the importance of transparency in promotional offers. Retailers must show the original price, the discounted price, and the percentage reduction to help consumers assess the true value of discounts. Inspections are ongoing, with over 500 campaigns completed by August 19, aiming for 800 by the end of the month.

## Discount Trends

Discounts on school supplies typically range from 25% to 30%, with some items seeing reductions up to 75%. Newer products often have smaller discounts, while items unchanged from previous years may have larger reductions. The variety of products caters to different budgets, from basic essentials to premium items.

## Shopping Tips for Parents

Officials recommend parents compare prices across different retailers rather than relying solely on advertised discount percentages. Creating a shopping list and budget can help distinguish necessary purchases from those driven by promotions. It's also advised to keep receipts and warranty documents, especially for electronics, and to understand return policies when shopping online.
