## Incident Overview
Dr. Neha Gupta, a pediatrician originally from India, is facing serious charges after the death of her four-year-old daughter, Aria Talathi. The incident occurred at a vacation rental in El Portal, Florida, where Gupta reported finding her daughter unresponsive in a swimming pool.
## Initial Reports and Investigation
On June 27, 2025, Gupta made an emergency call claiming her daughter had drowned. First responders took the child to a hospital, where she was declared dead. Initially, the case was considered an accidental drowning.
## Autopsy Findings
However, an autopsy revealed no water in the child's lungs or stomach, contradicting the drowning claim. Instead, injuries suggested asphyxiation, leading investigators to suspect smothering as the cause of death.
## Legal Proceedings
Following these findings, Gupta was arrested and charged with first-degree murder. Authorities believe she staged the drowning to hide the true cause of death. Gupta, who was vacationing in Florida with her daughter, was extradited to Miami-Dade County, where she remains in custody.
## Ongoing Case
The release of the 911 call has provided further insights into the case. Prosecutors plan to use both the call and autopsy results as evidence. The case has attracted significant attention due to Gupta's medical background and the nature of the allegations. Legal proceedings continue, with no trial date announced yet.
