## Women in Leadership at DIFC Courts

Emirati women now constitute 62% of the workforce at the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) Courts, holding significant roles in the judiciary, Registry, and Executive Team. This development aligns with the UAE's theme for Emirati Women’s Month 2026, "We Emerge Stronger and Better."

## Key Figures and Roles

Justice Maha Al Mheiri stands out as the first Emirati woman appointed to a judicial position on a common law bench, currently serving in the Court of First Instance. Ayesha Bin Kalban leads the Registry and also acts as a judge and mediator in the Small Claims Tribunal. Amna Al Owais, previously the first Emirati woman Registrar of a common law court in the GCC, now serves as Deputy Director of the DIFC Courts. Reem Al Shihhe, as Chief Operating Officer, manages the operational departments, having previously excelled in human resources and business excellence.

## Future Directions

Justice Omar Al Mheiri, Director of the DIFC Courts, emphasized the crucial role Emirati women play in shaping the institution's present and future. The DIFC Courts, operating under an independent English-language common law system, are committed to fostering opportunities for Emirati women in various areas, including adjudication, court administration, and mediation, to enhance national expertise in dispute resolution.
