## Unwavering Commitment
In a remarkable display of determination, Leian Lieza Galang and Gilbert Chico exchanged vows in a church submerged in hip-deep floodwaters in Hagonoy, north of Manila. Despite the challenging conditions, the couple, both in their 30s, decided to proceed with their wedding as planned.
## A Unique Ceremony
The ceremony took place at the Saint John the Baptist church, which had been partially underwater for nearly a month due to heavy monsoon rains. The couple, dressed in their wedding attire, waded through the murky waters to reach the altar. The parish priest conducted a brief ceremony, declaring them husband and wife.
## Weather Challenges
The Philippines has been experiencing heavier-than-usual monsoon rains, leading to landslides and flash floods that have claimed 34 lives. Despite these conditions, the couple's love and commitment shone through, as they chose to celebrate their union with fewer than 15 guests present.
## Adjustments and Support
To accommodate the flooding, the bride altered her gown to navigate the waters safely. The couple arrived at the church in a rickshaw with an elevated chassis, keeping their clothes dry until they reached the courtyard. Photographer Mikko Rey Alfonso noted the parish's efforts to make the day special, despite advising the couple to postpone due to rising waters.
## A Change of Plans
Originally set for December, the wedding was moved up after Chico, who works in the Middle East, returned home earlier than expected due to an ankle injury. This unexpected break allowed the couple to hold their wedding before Chico's return to work.
