## RTA's Safety Initiatives
Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has successfully maintained a record of zero traffic fatalities in school zones since 2010. This achievement is attributed to ongoing safety campaigns and awareness programs targeting students, parents, and drivers.
## New Academic Year Campaign
As the 2026-2027 academic year begins, RTA has launched a series of initiatives to promote road safety around schools. These efforts are part of a broader "Traffic Safety for School Students" campaign led by the Ministry of Interior.
## Key Safety Measures
RTA emphasizes the importance of adhering to speed limits, avoiding double parking, and using designated drop-off and pick-up areas. Parents and drivers are urged to be vigilant at pedestrian crossings and around school buses, especially during the initial weeks of school when traffic is heavier.
## Survey Insights
A recent survey conducted by RTA during the 2025-2026 academic year revealed that 91% of parents use designated areas for student drop-off and pick-up. The survey also found that 44% of students travel by school bus, while 47% use private vehicles.
## Educational Programs
RTA continues to implement educational programs such as "Hello, My School" and "Virtual Driving Licence" to teach students about road safety. These programs use interactive methods to educate students on safe road crossing, proper use of pedestrian crossings, and the importance of seat belts.
## Engineering Improvements
RTA is also enhancing traffic and engineering measures around schools, including upgrades to pedestrian crossings and traffic-calming measures. The use of digital tools and interactive materials is being expanded to further promote road safety awareness.
