Sharjah Ruler raises social assistance threshold to Dh20,000 for 6,652 families

## New Social Assistance Threshold

The Ruler of Sharjah, His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, has announced an increase in the minimum monthly income threshold for families receiving social assistance. This new directive, effective from September 1, 2026, raises the threshold to Dh20,000, benefiting 6,652 families across the emirate.

## Financial Implications

The annual cost of this initiative is estimated at Dh195.13 million. This move is part of a broader strategy to enhance the living standards of families in Sharjah.

## Previous Measures

Earlier in the year, Sheikh Sultan had approved an increase in monthly social assistance to Dh17,500 for 4,237 cases, costing over Dh404.9 million annually. Additional support was also introduced for those with monthly incomes below Dh17,500, subject to certain conditions.
