## Proposed Changes to Parking Fees
Dubai's public parking fees could see another adjustment in 2026, following a significant overhaul in 2025. The operator, Parkin, has suggested revising both tariffs and seasonal permit prices across the city. This proposal aims to address the pricing disparities that emerged after the previous changes.
## Reasons for the Proposed Increase
### 2025 Tariff Changes
In April 2025, Dubai introduced variable parking tariffs, increasing the average hourly rate by 51% to Dh3.03. This led to a noticeable difference in costs between different zones, with Zones B and D seeing higher increases than Zones A and C. The changes made daily parking more expensive and widened the cost gap between hourly and seasonal permits. Parkin now seeks to adjust these tariffs to rebalance the system.
### Rise in Seasonal Permit Sales
The increase in daily tariffs prompted many frequent users to switch to seasonal permits for better long-term value. This shift resulted in a 140% surge in seasonal card sales by the end of 2025. Parkin plans to modify the pricing and structure of these permits to address the imbalance while maintaining long-term discounts.
### Discrepancy in Parking Data
The switch to seasonal permits has affected how parking demand is recorded. Permit holders are not included in hourly occupancy figures, leading to a decline in reported utilisation rates despite strong actual demand. This discrepancy poses challenges for planning and revenue forecasting. Parkin also expanded parking capacity by 11% in 2025, adding to the complexity of aligning pricing with real usage.
## Impact on Motorists
If approved, the proposed changes could affect both daily users and long-term permit holders, potentially altering monthly commuting costs for residents relying on public parking in busy areas.
