India’s overseas struggles prompt BCCI to rethink FTP

## BCCI's Strategic Shift

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is set to revise its Future Tours Programme (FTP) following India's recent struggles in overseas cricket tours. The decision was made during a review meeting in Mumbai, prompted by disappointing performances in Ireland and England.

## Focus on Rest and Acclimatisation

BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia highlighted the need for players to have more rest and acclimatisation time before tours to South Africa, England, New Zealand, and Australia. These countries present conditions that differ significantly from those in India, necessitating a strategic approach to preparation.

## Addressing Player Workload

The meeting, attended by key figures like Test captain Shubman Gill and head coach Gautam Gambhir, also addressed concerns over player workload and injuries. Saikia pointed out the impact of the demanding cricket calendar, including the two-month IPL season, on player fitness.

## Proposed Changes

To better manage player workloads, the BCCI plans to adjust schedules to allow more rest and include warm-up matches before major series. This approach aims to help players adapt to local conditions and reduce injury risks.

## Coordination and Future Plans

The BCCI is working on improving coordination among its departments and has sought feedback from team captains and coaches. Despite the absence of chief selector Ajit Agarkar from the meeting, the board is moving forward with its plans. India's upcoming schedule remains packed, with tours and series against several international teams.
