Detained for deportation, pregnant woman finds unexpected help from Bengaluru police

## Compassionate Intervention by Bengaluru Police

A 22-year-old Bangladeshi woman, detained for allegedly living illegally in India, received unexpected support from Bengaluru police after it was discovered she was eight months pregnant. The officers, part of "Operation Mukta," initially detained her on July 17. However, recognizing her condition, they took steps to ensure her well-being.

## Prenatal and Postnatal Care

Sub-Inspector Kalavathi, herself pregnant, led the efforts to provide the woman, Asma Khatoon, with necessary medical care. Police personnel regularly accompanied her to government hospitals for prenatal check-ups and scans. On August 24, Khatoon gave birth to her second daughter at Ghosh Hospital in Bengaluru, with police constable Chandrakala by her side.

## Arranging Safe Deportation

Following the birth, the police faced the challenge of arranging Khatoon's deportation with her newborn. They coordinated the journey to Malda, West Bengal, where Khatoon and her family would begin their return to Bangladesh. Special arrangements were made for the nine-day-old baby, with a woman head constable, Sheela, accompanying them to ensure their safety and comfort during the train journey.

The family reached Malda safely, where they were handed over to West Bengal Police for further proceedings.
