## Infantino's Re-election Bid
FIFA has confirmed that Gianni Infantino will run for re-election as president in the upcoming March 2027 election. Despite facing criticism over his previous proposal to introduce private investment into FIFA events, Infantino remains committed to seeking another term.
## Controversy and Support
Infantino's plan, known as the FIFA Forward Enterprise, was met with backlash, particularly from UEFA, which accused him of mismanagement. UEFA even threatened to boycott FIFA competitions if the plan proceeded. However, the proposal was eventually abandoned.
Despite the controversy, Infantino has received backing from several football organizations, including CONCACAF, the Asian Football Confederation, and the governing bodies of African and South American football. Saudi Arabia, the host of the 2034 World Cup, also expressed support for Infantino.
## Election Details
Infantino, who has been FIFA president since 2016, is currently the only candidate for the 2027 election. To secure another term, he needs a majority vote from FIFA's 211 member federations. The deadline for candidate nominations is November 18, 2026.
