Dubai gold prices ease after 24K touched Dh542, Fed outlook takes centre stage

## Recent Price Movements

Gold prices in Dubai saw a decrease on Monday morning, with 24-karat gold dropping by Dh3.50 per gram to Dh530.25. This follows a previous high of Dh542 earlier in the month. Similarly, 22-karat gold fell to Dh491 from Dh494.25, while 21-karat and 18-karat gold also experienced declines.

## Global Influences

The international gold market has been volatile, with prices briefly falling below $4,400 an ounce. This decline is partly due to stronger-than-expected US employment data, which has increased the likelihood of the Federal Reserve raising interest rates in mid-September. Higher interest rates typically make gold less attractive as it does not yield interest.

## Economic Factors

Recent geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, including Iran's targeting of oil tankers, have contributed to inflation concerns. This has led to a rise in oil prices, with Brent crude nearing $97 a barrel. These developments, along with upcoming US consumer price data, are influencing market expectations regarding future interest rate decisions by the Federal Reserve.

## Market Outlook

Gold has been trading within a narrow range since July, fluctuating around $4,400 an ounce. Despite recent declines, central-bank purchases and increased holdings by major investors indicate continued interest in gold as a hedge against economic uncertainty. The market remains below the record high of $5,600 an ounce seen in January.
