Eiffel Tower closed in row over women removed for Hindu group

## Staff Strike Closes Eiffel Tower

The Eiffel Tower was unexpectedly closed on Monday following a staff strike. Employees protested the removal of female colleagues during a visit by a Hindu religious group. The incident coincided with a cultural event on the Seine organized by the Bochasanwasi Akshar Purushottam Swaminarayan Sanstha (BAPS).

## Controversial Visit

The operating company, SETE, admitted that the Hindu delegation requested minimal interaction with women during their visit. This request was met, leading to the sidelining of female staff, which sparked outrage among employees and management.

## Official Reactions

Paris's socialist mayor, Emmanuel Gregoire, criticized the decision to comply with the delegation's conditions, calling it "unacceptable." SETE's president, Ariel Weil, promised a thorough investigation into the incident.

## Background

BAPS, a spiritual movement linked to India's ruling party, recently inaugurated its first major temple in France. Despite Monday's closure, the Eiffel Tower is set to reopen on Tuesday, according to a staff representative.
