## Mayon Volcano Eruption
The Mayon Volcano in the Philippines has been actively erupting, causing a fast-moving avalanche of hot rocks and ash. This event, known as a lava-collapse pyroclastic density current (PDC), is considered one of the most hazardous volcanic activities. As of Friday, February 27, 2026, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported that the PDC was still ongoing, with warnings that similar events could continue due to unstable lava accumulation.
Authorities have maintained Alert Level 3 for Mayon, indicating significant volcanic unrest. Residents are advised to stay away from the 6-kilometer Permanent Danger Zone due to potential PDCs, rockfalls, and sudden eruptions. Despite the dangers, Mayon's spectacular nighttime lava displays continue to attract tourists, although local officials urge visitors to adhere to safety guidelines.
## Kanlaon Volcano Activity
Meanwhile, Kanlaon Volcano on Negros Island has also been erupting, with Phivolcs monitoring it under Alert Level 2. On February 26, 2026, Kanlaon experienced a moderately explosive eruption, sending ash plumes 2,500 meters above the crater. The volcano continues to emit ash and gases, with plumes reaching up to 1,000 meters.
Phivolcs has recorded volcanic earthquakes and noted the volcano's edifice remains inflated, indicating ongoing unrest. Communities near Kanlaon are advised to remain vigilant and prepare for potential ashfall.
## Safety and Monitoring
Both volcanoes are under close observation by Phivolcs, which emphasizes the importance of monitoring official updates. Residents and tourists are urged to follow safety advisories and evacuation orders to ensure their safety during these volcanic activities.
