October mid-term school break moved forward: UAE parents rebook flights and change holiday plans

## School Break Dates Changed

In Dubai, the mid-term school break originally scheduled for October 19-23 has been moved to October 12-16, 2026. This adjustment has prompted many families to revise their travel and holiday plans.

## Impact on Families

Parents who had already booked flights and accommodations are now scrambling to make new arrangements. Some families are opting for local staycations or day trips due to the shorter notice and limited time.

Rosette Marquez, a mother of a Year 3 student, mentioned that her family had to rebook flights and is now planning to explore local destinations like Ras Al Khaimah and the Etihad Rail.

## Mixed Reactions

While some parents are inconvenienced by the change, others find it beneficial. Nejuma Iqbal, whose children were set to miss school for a family reunion, finds the new dates more convenient as they now align with her plans.

## Official Announcement

The UAE Ministry of Education had announced the academic calendar earlier this year, specifying the mid-term break dates. All private schools in Dubai are required to follow this unified schedule, as confirmed by the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA).
