Oman sets EV charging fees from October, tariffs to reach 120 baisa per kWh

## New Tariff Structure

Starting October 1, Oman will implement regulated fees for electric vehicle (EV) charging. The new pricing will vary based on the charging station's capacity. Stations with up to 90 kilowatts capacity will charge 50 baisa per kilowatt-hour (kWh). For capacities between 91kW and 180kW, the fee will be 90 baisa per kWh. Stations with 181kW or more will charge 120 baisa per kWh.

## Regulatory Efforts

The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, in collaboration with the Authority for Public Services Regulation and Oman Net Zero Centre, announced this tariff structure. The initiative aims to regulate the expanding EV charging market in Oman, ensuring transparency and supporting infrastructure growth.

## Economic Considerations

The tariffs were determined after a detailed study of the economic and operational factors affecting EV charging stations. The goal is to maintain affordability for EV users while ensuring the commercial viability of charging stations, making them attractive to investors.

## Broader Goals

This move is part of Oman's broader strategy to develop a regulated electric mobility ecosystem. It aligns with the country's long-term net-zero goals and efforts to expand its electric vehicle infrastructure.
